Where the pictures on this site come from, who made them, and the licences that let us use them.
The photographs and works of art in Afghanistan in pictures, at the top of the section pages and in the memoir come from Wikimedia Commons. Each is in the public domain or under a Creative Commons licence, as listed below. Our copies are resized, and some are cropped to remove the edges of the original glass plates and slides.
You may reuse them on the same terms: credit the author and link to the licence. Pictures under a BY-SA licence must be shared under the same licence; public domain and CC0 pictures may be used freely.
The photograph of Band-e Amir at the top of the home page and the portraits of the authors come from the family’s original site.
